Madrid Masters - Nadal pushed before reaching Madrid semis
Rafael Nadal battled back from a set and a break down to beat compatriot David Ferrer 4-6 7-6(3) 6-0 and book a place in the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters.
Nadal looked firmly on the back-foot throughout the opening set and a half before somehow finding a way back into the match and forcing the tie-break.
With Ferrer having lost 14 consecutive clay court matches to Nadal coming into the match, the fourth seed’s best chance was always going to be to win in straight sets.
And so it proved to be, the 31-year-old, who added just a fifth clay court set to his tally against Nadal in 16 meetings, completely falling away in the final set.
More to follow.
